Is this tool safe to use?
Yes. The checks use industry-standard test endpoints and only observe how your network responds. We never access private messages, camera, microphone, or files on your devices. If you are on a sensitive corporate network, speak to IT before running external probes.
Do you store my IP address or any test data?
By default we do not store your IP in a database. Some hosts may cache the ISP lookup briefly to reduce API traffic. Test results stay in your browser session unless you choose to share them yourself.
Will this slow my broadband down?
No. The sequence lasts about a minute and moves small requests. You might see a short burst of traffic similar to loading a single news article.
What's the difference between BT Parental Controls and app-based parental tools?
Network controls apply to anything connected through your broadband without installing extra software on each device. Apps such as Norton Family add device-level rules and reporting. Many families combine both for layered protection.
My broadband provider isn't listed. What do I do?
Use the universal guide below, then search your provider's site for "parental controls" or "family safety". Stick to official domains linked from your bill or router sticker to avoid scams.
My partner uses our broadband for work. Will filters break things?
Sometimes strict filters interfere with VPNs or niche business sites. Most providers let you allow-list domains or schedule filtering around working hours. Start with a lighter profile and adjust after discussion at home.
What about my child's mobile data?
Mobile networks apply their own filters and fair-use rules. This tool focuses on home WiFi because that is where families usually share one connection. Pair router controls with OS parental settings on phones for complete coverage.
How often should I re-check?
Run the tool after you change provider, router, or DNS settings, and roughly every few months as children grow. If you temporarily disable filtering for troubleshooting, re-run the check afterwards to confirm everything is back on.
