Gigaclear is a rural full-fibre altnet covering parts of the South-East, South-West, and Midlands. They ship a Linksys Velop router and parental controls run through the Linksys app.

Step by step

How to switch it on

  1. 01

    Download the Linksys app on your phone (iOS App Store or Google Play). Sign in using the credentials shown on your Gigaclear welcome pack or in your account portal.

  2. 02

    Tap Parental Controls. Pick the device or set of devices you want to control.

  3. 03

    Block specific websites: add a domain (e.g. example.com) to the block list. The Linksys app filters per-device, not per-category by default.

  4. 04

    Set Pause schedules to switch the internet off for those devices during bedtime, homework, or meal times.

  5. 05

    Save. Pause and blocks are immediate.

  6. 06

    For category-level adult content blocking, also set Cloudflare 1.1.1.3 (Cloudflare for Families) on the router's DNS settings. See our /dns/ guide.

Also do this

Even with Linksys app parental controls turned on, adding a free DNS layer adds a second line of cover and closes some of the gaps. It takes about ten minutes and works on every device on your home Wi-Fi.
