Parental controls on O2 5G Home Broadband

No network filter on home broadband

O2 5G Home Broadband (Virgin Media O2) is a 4G/5G fixed-wireless product. O2's parental controls apply to mobile SIMs, not the 5G home Hub. Add a free DNS layer at the Hub and device-level controls per child.

Step by step

How to switch it on

  1. 01

Sign into the O2 5G Hub admin (address printed on the Hub label, typically 192.168.1.1).

  2. 02

Find DNS settings under WAN. Set DNS to Cloudflare for Families: primary 1.1.1.3, secondary 1.0.0.3.

  3. 03

Save and restart the Hub. Two to five minutes for every device to pick up the new DNS.

  4. 04

Install Apple Screen Time or Google Family Link on each child's device. These follow the device onto mobile data too.

Honest limits

What it covers and what it does not

Covers

Once Cloudflare for Families is set, every device on home Wi-Fi gets adult and malware blocking.

Does not cover

No per-child profiles at network level. Mobile-data filtering is separate (set on the SIM).

Add a free DNS filter

O2 5G Home Broadband does not run a network-level parental control filter. The fastest fix is to add a free DNS filter at your router. It covers every device on your Wi-Fi in one step and takes about ten minutes.
