Parental controls on KCOM

KCOM Parental Controls (legacy) or eero Secure (current plans)

KCOM is the incumbent provider in Hull and East Yorkshire. They run two paths depending on your router: a legacy free filter managed in My Account using age-band profiles, and a current eero-based product for households on Lightstream plans with the eero hub.

How to switch it on

  1. 01

Find out which router you have. If it is a KCOM eero, follow the eero app steps below. If it is an older KCOM router, use the My Account path.

  2. 02

eero path: open the eero app, tap Home, then Profiles, then Add Profile. Pick the devices the child uses. Set Content Filters to Block adult content, illegal, and violent content.

  3. 03

Set a Schedule on the profile to pause internet at bedtime and during school hours.

  4. 04

My Account path: sign in at kcomhome.com using your KCOM ID, then go to Parental Controls.

  5. 05

Choose your age band (Pre-school, Primary, or Secondary), or use Custom to pick specific categories.

  6. 06

Save. Changes apply within ten minutes across every device on the network.

Honest limits

What it covers and what it does not

Covers

Every device on your home Wi-Fi. The eero path also gives per-child profiles with bedtime schedules.

Does not cover

Encrypted apps, mobile data, and devices that switch to their own DNS.

Also do this

Even with KCOM Parental Controls (legacy) or eero Secure (current plans) turned on, adding a free DNS layer adds a second line of cover and closes some of the gaps. It takes about ten minutes and works on every device on your home Wi-Fi.
